Tower Lodge

You all know this building.  Here’s the story behind it:

In the early 1800s Mrs Bulwer Lytton (1773-1843) decided to modernise the Knebworth Estate.  In the process, she had 3 wings of the house demolished.  The gateway into the courtyard was carefully dismantled and rebuilt (c1816) as Tower Lodge at the SW corner of the estate where it remains, by the B656 to Hitchin.
