This is one pub you couldn’t visit after the lockdown.  In fact, the Bull hasn’t opened its doors since 1919.  As with so many Codicote pubs, early 20^th century trade proved tough, and in 1919 the Bull was taken over by Greens Brewery … and promptly closed to kill competition for the premises that were to become ‘The New Bell’ in 1923.  But where was the Bull?




The 2^nd photo gives it away – this row includes Watson’s bakery, the Bull, a grocer’s (which became a wet fish shop), the Plough Inn and Robarts at the end of the row.
